Notes from Dominique…
Now when I meet people and they ask about the choir, I say to them “do you like to sing?”… to which many people reply sheepishly, avoiding eye contact “I CAN’T sing”, and then I say “that was not the question”. I have met very few people who have been able to look me in the eye and say “NO”. Usually the answer comes with a glance at the ground and or a tongue in the cheek and and answer such as “oh… you don’t want ME in your choir, I am … ” and then you can add in a plethora of phrases such as: “I’m tone deaf”, “I can’t hold a note”, “I have NO musical ability”, “I can’t read music”, etc etc… (insert excuses as you see fit)… Fact of the matter is many of us are afraid to even try, because we have been told at some point in our lives that we have no talent, are musically inept, tone deaf, talentless, you name it. We were told at some point in our life that we “CAN”T” or “SHOULDN’T” sing.
My passion is now to make every rehearsal one that makes you go home with the feeling that you had a good time, one that makes you feel energized and excited about what the next week’s rehearsal will bring, and to produce shows that make you proud to be in the group! We have such a blast in rehearsals, laughing, singing, and working hard to get those harmonies, and musical phrases.
